Embroidery Pochette "Skunk"

One of the most show-stopping pieces that walked down the runway in the Spring 2013 show was the Embroidery Pochettes “Skunk”— a black and white striped oversize clutch covered in over 135,000 paillettes.

The paillettes used are the smallest available in the market. Because the paillettes are so tiny, the embroidery cannot be done by hand and was done by machinery in our Italian factories. Each panel takes 13 to 14 hours to embroider. The lining of each pochette is done in a supple soft calf leather, keeping the feeling of luxury on the inside of the bag as well as on the outside.

The Joe

Marc has had a long-time fascination with the Pan Am era, and flight bags worn by flight attendants and that fascination has manifested itself this season in this group.
Constructed of calf leather, the bag is soft but durable and maintains structure no matter how little is kept inside the bag.

Additional Details:
• A top-zip closure with our new flat lock shows consistency among the Runway groups this season
• A new framed leather branding is also found on the back of the bag, a favorite detail of Marc’s.
• The bag is lined with a silk twill that lends a touch of elegance and a departure from our cotton canvas lining used in our core bags.
• All hardware is nickel.

The Prisoners group is done in rubbery leather. Calf leather is used for the base, giving the bag hold and structure, while the rubber coating is applied to give the bag a soft and velvety feel. The trim of the bag including the handle and thick middle stripes are lambskin, adding textural differences.

Shiny Teds Camden

The Shiny Teds family is made from Spazzolato leather, and the finished product has a high-shine that looks similar to that of plastic or patent leather, but it is neither.

The leather is Chrome tanned, the most effective and efficient manner in which to tan leather, which is also significantly less toxic than other methods of tanning. The leather is then polished using two different methods. The first polishing makes the leather the most smooth it can possibly be, removing any grains or markings that are natural. The second polish is done to achieve the shine, this is the brushing Spazzolato effect. The process of Spazzolato has to be done by hand in order to achieve the desired effect, and takes up to three days just to get the leather ready for production.

This Wild Teds Camden handbag involves a leopard finish that is painstakingly printed and layered one color at a time, done so precisely so that the spots are created perfectly. Essentially, it is created by a 4-layer process that begins with the first layer of the white background, followed by the center dark stripe. After the two base prints, each color of the leopard spots are applied one screen and one layer at a time. This process of applying the different colors as separate screens ensure perfect alignment of each spot and a graphic element to the finished product. This leather is then treated by spreading a polyurethane treatment on the skin to have the look and feel of a rubbery leather.
